10.15.12 PSYCH!!! and CLASsy Times!

Here's a recap of the past couple of TTA weeks:

10/8/12  "The CLASsiest of the CLASsy"

This week's episode highlighted the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) advising office, with representatives Robert Mercer (Assistant Dean of CLAS) and Ben Alberts, academic adviser.  Truly, an informative and entertaining time, learning all about the ins and outs of the CLAS advising office.  And when the pressure was on and our guests were asked to name all of the departments within their college, they passed the test with FLYING colors!  And during the Bernard Pivot questionnaire, we all learned that Robert is a big fan of the sauce (not that sauce!), MARINARA sauce.  And Ben does NOT like when the words creamy or buttery are used to describe non food items, hmmmm... yeah, I'm still not sure about that one.  If you're intrigued now, tune into the podcast of the show on kpsu.org.

For all of your CLAS advising needs, you can contact the office by calling 503-725-3822 or you can stroll on by in person, they are located in the Smith Memorial Student Union, room M305.

10/15/12  "PSYCH!!!"

If you couldn't tell by the title, this week's episode was all things Psychology, with our special guests Casey Campbell, academic adviser in the Psychology Department, and Ryan Dickers, a peer adviser within Psychology.

Another epic time with our guests, where we discussed some of Casey's and Ryan's scholastic history and found out what really happened to Jimmy Hoffa!!!  Okay, not really, but we went into depth about the advising process in the Psychology department and the importance of the army of peer advisers within this department.

So without further ado, to get in touch with Casey and his staff, you can call 503-725-3923 or email psyadvis@pdx.edu or you can drop by Cramer Hall room 360.

10.1.12 "May The EMSA Be With You"

(Cue Star Wars Theme Song)... The "May the EMSA Be With You" episode XXV?  Okay, enough with the puns, and back to the seriousness of TTA (Turntable Advising).

This week was a big one!  DJ Jamo and Super Student Nico left Thrillhouse and Great Scott with the task of hosting the Associate Vice President of Academic and Career Services at Portland State University, Mr. Dan Fortmiller (screams and applause fill the room).  The 20 or so minute interview with Mr. Fortmiller included a range of topics; including the "Advising Initiative" and "Mapping Project", both special projects near and dear to the heart of the Associate V.P., the changes Mr. Fortmiller has witnessed on campus in his years at PSU, and of course, the most important fact learned from the show, that if our guest could do anything else in his life, career-wise, he would be some sort of back-up musician for Santana, and it is for those little factoids that we are proud to give our audience a gift like Turntable Advising.

In all seriousness, Mr. Fortmiller was a wonderful guest, and has been a significant part of the PSU campus form many years.  We appreciate you Dan and it was a pleasure having you on the show.

Tune in next week for our College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Advising themed show (phew, that was a mouthful!), where our guests will be Mr. Robert Mercer, Assistant Dean, and Ben Alberts, Academic Adviser for CLAS.

See ya'll next week!
